NEW MEDIA TALENT EMERGES THROUGH MEDIA COURSE OPPORTUNITIES

Islamabad, 18 August: Riphah International University held a certificate distribution ceremony for the participants of a two week course on television production and photography.

Amir Jahangir, Chief Executive Officer, SAMAA TV participated as the Guest of Honor under the presence of students, faculty members and representatives from the media industry.

Speaking at the ceremony, Amir Jahangir said that “To develop a world compatible workforce, it is important that academia and media industry work together. The training and workshops always help people to get a strong hold on the subject and enhances their skills and shows us the emerging talent, which only reinforces the importance of nurturing the talent through development of opportunities”. Jahangir was especially glad to see the diversified backgrounds of the participants, who came from both the professional and academic background and said that ‘this again proves that talent lies within us all and carries no gender or age limits”.
On the occasion, a representative of the student participants said that “it was wonderful learning experience, although it was only a two week course but it was a crisp one, as we learnt many aspects of production and photography, and it has given us the motivation to pursue more opportunities within this field.”

Two short documentaries, which had been produced by the students, were also shown to the audience with the aim to reflect the outcome of the training workshop. The shown documentaries were applauded by the audience who commended the well made projects.
Mr. Jahangir also shared that “students are encouraged to make such documentaries that touch the various socio-economic side of the country. In the future, SAMAA will look forward to sponsor these documentaries, as SAMAA TV strongly believes that along with our business, it is our role to invest in the future of this industry so that it prospers and provide quality content”.

SAMAA TV and Riphah University signed a MoU in February this year reflecting a media talent growth program as part of linking the academia with the industry. This partnership will include carrying out various film and documentary contests for students across Pakistan to provide students the opportunity to showcase their talent and reach international platforms.

SAMAA TV will also be providing trained media professionals from SAMAA TV’s bureaus across Pakistan for experience sharing with the faculty and students of RIU. This network will aim to bridge the gap between the academia and industry and develop linkages and professional insight into the real media world and its requirements.

To cater the needs of building the capacity of the media, both SAMAA TV and RIU will be developing training modules targeting the media industry and will also be offering these modules as training solutions to the public & private sector. RIU has appreciated SAMAA TV’s partnership and has also awarded Amir Jahangir with an honorable membership of the RIU’s Governance Board to further promote initiatives related to media talent growth programs across Pakistan.

SAMAA TV is one of Pakistan’s leading private satellite television channels, which takes pride in its fair, factual and independent news coverage through its on-the-hour bulletins, breaking stories, incisive political analysis and current affairs programs. The channel has also made a niche for itself through its programs on women and youth issues besides infotainment and sports.
